Pointe Grey Dance Centre is located in the heart of Kitsilano in Vancouver, Canada, near the University of British Columbia and Spanish Banks. Founded in 1980 by Principal Instructor and Artistic Director Lynda Yee Shioya, the studio offers personalized instruction in classical ballet, tap, and ballroom dance, plus vocal choreography.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Lynda took her first ballet and tap lessons at age five. After studying under respected teachers including Florence Clough, Wynne Shaw, and Royal Winnipeg Ballet founders Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally, Lynda danced professionally with the renowned Komaki and Asami Maki Ballet Companies of Japan.
She has since performed numerous dance, musical theatre, and dramatic roles on stage, on TV, and in films in Canada and in Asia. Lynda has also had more than 25 years experience teaching children and adults in public and private schools and universities in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, and Asia. She was part of the team that wrote the first public education dance curriculum in British Columbia.
Following the belief that everyone learns differently, classes are kept small to create a comfortable and supportive environment where students can work to achieve their personal best.
Across all levels and types of dancing, Lynda believes that emphasizing the enjoyment of dance is paramount.
